Dashboards for VisionX’s camera-based machine-vision product.

Sight was VisionX’s machine-vision product. It ran computer vision on the security cameras a site already had and detected objects and patterns in the video. I designed the dashboards that turned those detections into something a leadership team could act on. Restaurants, universities, and offices each wanted something different from the same feeds.

The difficult part

What shaped the work

Data latency dictated which filters and data the dashboards could show. Scale varied by location — a site with one camera needs a UX focused on that single feed; a site with 10+ cameras needs an equally clear one. The dashboards were designed against both.

The Problem

Sight had to detect multiple objects in video streams and turn them into insights about behavior and site operations. It had to work with the cameras a site already had, across very different environments. The people reading it were leadership teams, not camera operators.

Research

I joined pitch calls with our CEO and leadership team to hear what each prospect needed. Universities asked about campus use. Restaurants like McDonald’s asked about customer experience and site operations. We built a different pitch deck and offering for each, then folded what we heard into one MVP.

The Pilot

For a McDonald’s pilot I designed a dashboard for their mobile drive-up and pickup parking spots. When COVID-19 hit, the use cases shifted to building safety: checking buildings against OSHA and CDC guidelines and flagging safety violations. Universities, malls, and McDonald’s used the dashboards during COVID to track engagement, attention, and where sanitation was needed.

Design System

Leaders checked Sight from laptops, tablets, and phones. I built an internal design system so the dashboards held together across all three.
